CERTIFIED FREAKS SEVEN DAYS A WEEK

Co-founded in 2005 by IFBB Pro Christina Mehling and Contest Prep Specialist Darren Mehling, Freak Fitness has become a leader in online coaching and personal training that specializes in contest preparation for physique competitions. Their dream team of coaches consists of Bree Balaski, Jeff Ingram, IFBB Pro Shelly Paton, and Denise Fann, all led by Christina and Darren. Freak Fitness helps people of all levels, from novice all the way to the Olympia stage, and while most of their client’s hail from across Canada and the US, no corner of the earth is too far for the Freak Fitness Family to assist in achieving competition goals.

To date, Freak Fitness’ proven coaching methods have helped their clients earn 944 top 3 placings and 36 IFBB Pro card qualifications – the most awards of any coaching team in Canadian history! The Freak Fitness family is well known for having high standards of performance, and being relentless in helping their clients pursue their goals. This group of Freak Fitness athletes are a shining example of that.

The following athletes (and 5 others who were unable to attend) were all registered to compete at the 2020 CPA President’s Cup and/or 2020 CPA Toronto Pro Qualifier, during the weekend of Nov 20-21, 2020. Due to escalating COVID-19 restrictions, and despite an exhaustive effort by show promoters Angie and Ron Hache, to make it happen, unfortunately both shows were cancelled one and two days out respectively! It was heart-breaking and a gut-wrenching development!

Determined to not have all of the Freak Fitness athletes’ hard work and incredible physique achievements go to waste, Christina and Darren sprung into action and reached out to the top fitness industry photographer, Dave Laus, and connected with our publisher here at Muscle Memory Mag, “Freaky Freddy” Antwi, to see if there was a way the athletes’ accomplishment could be documented and aptly celebrated. It is with pride and excitement that the creativity and determination of the great minds involved were able to make this awe-inspiring feature a reality.

COVID has impacted all of us. Beyond gyms being closed, and shows being cancelled, this group of athletes in particular suffered through lay-offs that created financial setbacks, dealt with issues that challenged their mental well being, with one athlete even losing her business of 10 years. The hardships and hurdles were many, but this team persevered to the very last day, and even though this project

can’t replace the thrill of winning an IFBB Pro card, or taking the stage to claim a personal victory, the pictures that we captured and this elaborate work out feature showcases their hard work, dedication, gains and provided a special kind of win nonetheless.
